Trench is more self-sufficient than early stage colonies in the Corporation Rim.
If colonies go well, they get regular supplies, handle whatever the planet needs, and thrives.
Big pay offs when it goes well.

There's more ways it can go poorly than is worth listing.
Whether it's a corporate takeover and the data is hidden/lost or a company going bankrupt or anything else...
Colonies get stranded. It happens all the time.

The non-corporate political entity I lived in when I came here was founded by abandoned colonists. A ship came, and the captain made a great speech about leaving no one behind. They traveled a long way and eventually built Preservation.
I have > 20 serials, plays, etc about the founding of Preservation if you're interested.
They got a good ending.
Most abandoned colonies don't.

Whatever universe you're in, there's valuable resources to mine.

Yeah, I died.

I miss a lot about it. Not everything, but it's hard to be here when everyone I know more than a couple months is back there.
